President¡¯s Vision Statement

1. Historical Context and TUAT¡¯s Mission

Today, humanity faces serious global challenges such as climate change and depletion of natural resources, making the development of advanced and integrated science and technology essential to address them. Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (hereafter, TUAT), with its pioneering achievements in both agricultural and engineering sciences, carries the important mission of integrating knowledge related to the foundations of human survival and linking them to social implementation. Under its fundamental philosophy of "MORE SENSE"¡ªMission Oriented Research and Education Giving Synergy in Endeavors Toward a Sustainable Earth, TUAT aims to transform the institution into a flagship university contributing to solving these global challenges.

2. President's Vision: "A truly unique research university that explores the Earth¡¯s true value"

We place great importance on "nurturing the seeds of the future together", building a foundation to ensure that the seeds sown to date are reliably brought to harvest, and passing those achievements on to the next generation. In particular with education and research on ¡°natural capital¡±, we aspire to establish TUAT as a unique and unparalleled research university in the world. Together with all members of TUAT, we will continue to shape the university into an environment where all members can take pride in what they do, proactively take on new challenges and grow professionally and personally¡ªrather than engaging in work or research merely as an obligation.

3. Five Action Plans

We will promote the following five pillars as the basis for fundamental reform.

(1)Creating a Virtuous Cycle of Education and Research

We emphasize fundamental research to create new research seeds and provide students with advanced learning opportunities. We will enhance the quality of education through the development of diverse entrance examination methods, introduction of AI to our education, and cultivation of doctoral-level talent.

(2)Strengthening International Competitiveness of Research

Institute of Global Innovation Research (GIR) as our focal point, we collaborate organically on large-scale projects within the university. We will increase the number of international students we accept from the Global South and further strengthen strategic partnerships with institutions in this region.

(3)Maximizing Social Value through Industry-Academia Collaboration

We will promote large-scale collaborative research involving interinstitutional faculty-level or center-level collaborations and accelerate the creation of startups. Leveraging our base in the West Tokyo area, we will play a pivotal role in regional innovation.

(4)Fostering a Diverse and Supportive Workplace

With DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) at the core of our university operations, we will create an environment where individuals can realize their full potential, rather than focusing on their differences in gender or nationality. We will strengthen our Women's Future Development Organization and support the career continuity of all faculty and staff.

(5)Strengthening University Management and Governance

We will establish a stable financial foundation and improve the reinvestment mechanism for the university by expanding the PI personnel cost system, a system that enables principal investigators to cover part of their personnel costs with competitive research funds, thereby strengthening research capacity and supporting more flexible institutional management. We will balance swift decision-making and highly transparent management that incorporates the expertise of external specialists.

4. Conclusion

We will leverage the power of co-creation between agricultural science and engineering and our university¡¯s agility to the fullest extent and continue to tackle global challenges. We will build a university that is widely recognized and confidently recommended by all, contributing to the future of mankind.
